Justin Timberlake’s new reality show for MTV, The Phone, which he’s producing but not starring in, explains his reason for being at the network’s upfronts in New York today. But what the hell is this new show?
Like most decent American television, it’s a foreign rip off, this time from the Dutch. Debuting this fall, it’s a “real-life Bourne Identity,” in so much as two cell phones on opposite ends of a city will ring at the same time, and whoever answers has five seconds to agree to the terms of the game, before being sent on various missions around town, “guided by a mysterious voice and followed by a helicopter.” [E!]

MTV has greenlighted a reality game show from Justin Timberlake and "American Idol" producers FremantleMedia North America.
"The Phone," based on a Dutch format by Park Lane Prods., pits two contestants in a race against time to accomplish a mission together and win a cash prize. Each episode begins with two strategically hidden cell phones ringing at opposite ends of a major city. Once answered, a mysterious guide gives contestants five seconds to decide whether they wish to play, at which point the competition begins.
"We're turning the reality competition format on its head and plunging the contestants into a real-life 'Bourne Identity' -- not just in the tone and creative but also in terms of the visual style and pacing," said Tony Disanto, executive vp programming and series development at MTV. "Each week will be an action packed mini-movie."
Added FMNA CEO Cecile Frot-Coutaz: " 'The Phone' is an exciting, innovative reality game that will make the viewer feel they're part of an espionage thriller that is gripping to the very end."
The show, debuting in the fall, is exec produced by Timberlake, David Schiff and Frot-Coutaz. Maira Suro is the executive overseeing production for MTV. - Hollywoodreporter.com

The MTV Upfronts will take place at the Nokia Theater in Times Square to focus on multiplatform opportunities across all of MTV’s on-air and online properties, including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, TV Land, Spike and CMT.

Madonna has revealed that her recent collaboration with Justin Timberlake occurred because she was listening to his music “obsessively”.
Timberlake is one of a number of stars that feature on Madonna’s new album ‘Hard Candy’ � which was released last Monday (April 28th).
Speaking to MTV, Madonna said the high profile collaborations with Timberlake, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams were natural.
"Because they're good, and I like their shit,” the singer said.
Madonna also revealed that her collaboration with Timberlake got very personal on the album track ‘Miles Away’.
"We put our stuff out there," she said. "And after we did the song, everybody in the studio was like, 'Oh, I can relate to that.'"

JT thinks Miley is a victim of the age we live in
Justin Timberlake has joined the growing list of stars defending Hannah Montana teenager Miley Cyrus.
Cyrus has been heavily criticised for her Vanity Fair photo shoot - where which she appears partially clothed.
MTV.com caught up with JT backstage at New York's Roseland Ballroom, and asked him for his take on the situation:
"Of course they're going to pick [on] a wholesome, American, young female [for] the first sign of anything," Timberlake said.
"Unfortunately, there's a picture of her that's published with her in just a blanket. ... And that's the photo, that's the catalyst. But that's also the age we live in. People want to take a photo, and that's who you are for a year's time. We've all become victims of that."
He continued, "I don't think people her age look at [the photo] the same way their parents do,"
The multi-talented Timberlake also joked that he could make some money...
"I'm gonna make 'Leave Miley Alone' T-shirts," he laughed.

NEW YORK (AP) — Clay Aiken is realistic about his niche in the musical landscape.
"I'm not cool, you know what I mean? I'm not gonna lie," the good-humored singer told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "I'm not trying to be Justin Timberlake. Thank God we have him, but I'm not him. ... I'm not gonna bring anybody's sexy back."
Aiken embraces his pop-lite sensibility in "On My Way Here," his first album of all-new material in more than four years.
The 29-year-old "American Idol" alum — he placed second to Ruben Studdard in the Fox show's second season — was the first non-winner to release a successful album, "Measure of a Man," which went double platinum in 2003. He followed that up with two cover albums: "Merry Christmas With Love" and "A Thousand Different Ways."
